Xylitol
Xylitol is a natural sweetener derived from birch trees or corn, with a sweet taste similar to sugar, used in chewing gum, baking, or drinks. It’s low in calories and doesn’t raise blood sugar levels.
Xylitol is not only a safe, natural sweetener without the bad side-effects of sugar and artificial substitutes, it’s also good for your teeth, stabilizes insulin and hormone levels, and promotes good health.
I do not use it as a sweetener but because of the beneficial effect it has on the reduction of tooth decay. Tests show people who for 6 months used chewing gum containing xylitol had fewer dental cavities for up to five years after they stopped using it.
