Interestingly enough, if you are overweight it could be because you are undernourished! A team of scientists at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center analyzed survey data from 15,000 people who were asked about the foods they eat, the supplement they use, and their weight changes over the past decade. When they analysed the data they were surprised to discover those people who regularly consumed 3 common nutrients typically gained LESS fat over the 10-year period than those who didn’t.
These 3 nutrients were chromium (which balances blood sugar levels that control hunger), Vitamins B6 and B12 (which are both involved in helping convert calories to energy, so they are not as easily stored as fat.)
Successive conversations with a naturopath and a personal trainer who both wanted a low sugar bar led to this nutrition packed, high protein, high fibre, low sugar bar. As a base I took the ingredients in the Peak Performance Bar. I removed the honey, agave and yacon syrups and fruit to reduce the sugar content to 3%. Trouble was, that formula did not pass the taste police and the bar was very crumbly. So I added back a little honey, maple and yacon syrups so more people would find it acceptable. So far, so good. I think even diabetics would find this a great fit for their snack requirements.
Out of the fridge it is quite firm but at room temperature it is so malleable I nearly called it “fitness fudge”!.

Now before you go all down in the mouth at the number of calories, the fat or sugar content, listen up. At a sugar level of 3% I had 3 out of 50 people who tested the bar would eat it. That’s unviable. No good making the best bar in the world if next to nobody will eat it. The increased sugar content comes from honey and maple syrup - both ingredients have anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-diabetic and anti-cancer properties and some sweetness from stevia powder.
One guy who tested weight loss diets found people whose weight loss had plateaued at a certain level started to lose weight again as soon as he added some good fats back into their diet. Ant there is NOTHING BUT good fats in these bars!
All the marketing and pretty packaging in the world cannot turn empty calories from sugar and highly processed food into good nutrition that enhances your body health. The marketing and pretty packaging will sell a lot of junk food and make some corporations really profitable. It will turn an entire generation into junk food addicts who die far earlier than they should. But don’t for one minute confuse those empty calories with my nutrient packed calories!
